LIP BLUSH

What is Lip Blush?

Lip Blush is a semi-permanent makeup tattoo that enhances and defines both the natural shape and colour of the natural lips.

It can also be used to help mask scars and imperfections of the lips and to create symmetry.

If you have a favorite lipstick, bring it on the day of your appointment and we can colour match it.

How Long Will It Last?

Lip Blush will last 2 to 3 years, depending on the client’s body, skin type, lifestyle, and proper aftercare.

Here are some examples that will cause your semi-permanent tattoo to fade faster:

  • Smoking

  • Sun exposure

  • Exfoliants

  • Iron deficiency

  • Oily Skin

Does It Hurt?

Pain levels vary from person to person. For the client's comfort, numbing cream and gel will be applied before and during the Lip Blush procedure.

How Long Does It Take to Heal?

Lip Blush takes 7 to 10 days to heal after the procedure. Be aware that the colour will vary quite a lot during the healing process before reaching the final colour that you agreed upon with your Artist.

Healing Expectation

The healing rate differs from one person to another. During the healing process, you will typically expect these following:

  • Freshly done lips will appear vibrant for the first few days and will gradually fade about 30 to 50%, depending on your natural lip colour.

  • During the first few days, you may experience swelling, bruising, dryness, oozing, tingling, and tenderness. This is normal as your body is healing and reacting naturally to the semi-permanent tattoo. This will usually subside 24 to 48 hours.

  • Lips will be itchy, dry, flaky, and will scab.

Additional Touch-Up(s)

No complimentary touch-up is included with the Lip Blushing procedure. Any addutional touch-up(s) will be subjected to a $150 fee. These touchups must be scheduled within the 6 to 8 weeks  timeframe for both Lip Blush and Dark Lip Neutralization after the initial session. Anything beyond the timeframe will be charged as an annual touch up.

Dark Lip Neutralization

If your lips are discoloured, brown, cool, dark-toned, hyperpigmented, or melanin-rich, and you wish to lighten them up, a dark lip neutralization is required. The initial session must be orange and/or yellow to neutralize your lips.

Please keep in mind, this procedure is a process. If you are required to neutralize your lips prior to adding the desired pigment, multiple sessions may be required, and you will be charged for the extra fees.

This is not a Lip Camouflage or Camouflage Tattooing. We do not darken the lips to fill in the natural lip colour, only lighten them.

Botox / Lip Fillers

If you would like to have Botox or lip fillers, it is recommended that you wait 4 weeks before or after the Lip Blush procedure has healed.

This is to ensure that the shaping and pigmentation are not compromised by symmetry correction done with fillers.

Contraindications

Lip Blush is suitable for most clients of all ages and lifestyles. However, it depends on your overall health, medical conditions, and skin quality. These need to be taken into consideration for the safety and best possible outcome of the semi-permanent tattoo. To ensure if you are a good candidate for the procedure, you MUST NOT have the following:

  • Under 18 years of age

  • Transmittable blood conditions like HIV or Hepatitis

  • Active skin cancer/disease such as psoriasis, eczema, and undiagnosed rashes or blisters on the site that is to be treated.

  • Pregnant/breastfeeding

  • Use steroids/ hormone therapy

  • Use of Accutane/Retin-A or Latisse

  • Healing disorder

  • Keloid scarring

  • Diabetes

  • Prescribed blood thinners

  • Hemophiliac

  • High blood pressure

  • Undergoing chemotherapy

  • Epileptic

  • Allergies to makeup or colours

Whilst the above list is by no means exhaustive, it will give you a good idea of the types of contraindications relating to semi-permanent makeup. For some of the above, you may proceed with the treatment with only a written authorization from your Doctor before we can proceed. Please do your research to verify if you can proceed with the treatment or not.

You know your health condition better than anyone else. If the above list does not provide any conditions you may have, verify with your Doctor and email us prior to booking.

Pre-Treatment Procedures

  • ** IMPORTANT: Exfoliate (with any lip exfoliation or DIY - sugar and honey) and moisturize lips once or twice a day for a week leading up to the appointment. Don't forget to also stay hydrated - drink lots of water! **

Failure to do so will cause the pigment to bounce back from your skin, not being able to evenly penetrate the colour, or causing no colour to appear at all.

  • Avoid any supplements or medications with blood-thinning effects such as Advil, Midol, Fish Oil, Ibuprofen, Vitamin E, etc. for a week leading up to the appointment as it may increase pain sensitivity and excessive bleeding.

  • Avoid alcohol and caffeine 24 hours before the appointment as it can affect excessive bleeding.

  • No suntanning/excessive sun exposure, microdermabrasion, derma planning, laser treatment, and chemical peels 2 weeks prior to the procedure.

  • No facials 4 weeks before the procedure.

  • Please eat before the procedure since you want normal blood sugar levels for any tattooing procedures. You will also be required not to eat for at least 5 hours after the procedure to reduce the risk of infection.

Cold Sores

This procedure can trigger cold sores for carriers of the Herpes Simplex Virus. If you have a history of cold sores, consult with your Doctor. Many clients avoid cold sore breakouts by taking antiviral prescriptions (Valacyclovir, Denavir (Penciclovir), Valtrex, or Acyclovir (Zovirax)). You must take the antiviral prescriptions for at least a week before the procedure and continue to take it until you are done healing.

Post-Treatment Procedures

  • Keep your lips as clean and dry, but moisturized, as you can for 7 to 10 days with the given ointment.

  • Do not touch, pick, peel, or pull on the lip skin as it may lead to irritation, infection, and loss of pigment and/or scarring.

  • Avoid hot, spicy, oil, acidic, and greasy foods for a minimum of 7 days until all scabs have dissipated.

  • Use a straw while drinking if your lips feel tender for the first few days.

  • Do not apply lipstick or anything on top of your Lip Blush other than the healing salve/ointment while it is healing.

  • Do not expose lips to sun tanning/excessive sun exposure, microdermabrasion, derma planning, laser treatment, and chemical until the area has healed.
  • No facials or other face beauty treatment is done for a week.

Touch-Ups

It is important to take note that as time passes, your semi-permanent tattoo will begin to fade. Thus, touch-up is beneficial to maintain the desired shape and colour of your lips.

Touch-up prices are for existing clients only.
